Home
Today the Chase family arrived home at 7:30 p.m. After witnessing history we are back. In D.C I saw faces I will always remember. I saw old african americans crying with joy and young people too. I will always remember the chants of people yelling "Obama, Obama, Obama" over and over again. The other thing people yelled was "yes we can, yes we can, yes we can" over and over again. See you tommorow!
shortest speech - Henry Russell
William Henry Harrison had the longest inauguration speech but the shortest presidential term. It was so cold at the inauguration that a month later he died from pnuemonia.
Hey Tommy!
Hi tommy could you actually see Obama?
Did you think the speaches werte boring?

Today Was Amazing!!
Hi Everybody!!
Today we watched the inauguration live and it was absolutely amazing. I am very excited for Obama, Malia, Sasha, and Michelle (I think that that is how you spell her name). Today might have been the most historical day in the history of the USA and it must have been so much fun for Carolyn, Tommy, Phoebe, Margaret to be there, watching the "real thing". I just have one question; When does Pres. (Yay!) Barack Obama and his family move into the White House? and How long did it take to put all of their belongings in their new "house" or mansion?
I also thought that it was funny that Bush was escorted out the "back door" of the White House and flown away in a helicopter.
Thanks again for keeping us posted Carolyn, Tommy, Margaret and Phoebe!

Concert and Zoo
Yesterday my cousins and my family headed to the National Zoo. We were lucky to find out it was free and there weren't many people there. We saw hilarious orangutans who didn't like me. Every time they saw me they would take a sheet and cover themselves! At 7:00 we went to the Verizon center in downtown D.C and saw the Kids Inaugural Concert. We saw not only musical acts but comedians like Jamie Foxx and George Lopez. The musical performers included: Miley Cyrus, Bow Wow, Souja Boy, Keke Palmer and the Jonas Brothers. Also, Dr. Biden spoke and then introduced Mrs. Obama who also spoke. On the last song of the night the Jonas Brothers brought up Sasha and Melia Obama to the stage. Here are the orangutans.
Today
Today I was nervous, excited and cold all at the same time. I was nervous that something might happen to President Barack Obama and because there were people lined up on top of buildings with big guns. I was excited to be in D.C and to be able to have a great view. It was 10 degrees out so at 6: 30 am everybody bundled up when they headed out to the Capitol.

In this picture I am with Bill Hammar from CNN news. We were later interviewed and we might be on CNN.
Washington DC
do you guys know that for the inauguration there were 150 blocks (!!!!) closed in DC
I think it was mostly for security but some was for the parade

Inauguration!
Today was a long, cold, and full-of-history day! We got up at aroung 6:30 am and got into the car and drove in a packed car with a bunch of my 2nd cousins, we had Abbey, Allison, Justin, Andrew, Keenan, me, Tommy, Phoebe, my mom, and My Uncle Tom! That is 10 people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We walked a little while and then got into line, we waited a while to get to the security check and luckily we all made it through!!!!! Then we went to our place where we stood and waited all together in the freezing cold for 3 and half hours!!!! We had lots of fun!!!!!!!!! We could hear his speech pretty well! It was awesome!!!!!
dresses
hey guys for the people who are watching the parade did you see the ladies from Arizona with the weird fluffy dresses
The Parade (porta-potties)
Did you guys know that there were 5,000 porta-potties placed along the parade route?... I bet you still had to wait in line!
Hey Carolyn and everyone else! I think this was a great to have a new President, and an African-American one no less. It was also a great way to look over everyone's opinions and adventures of the election. I just wanted to see how awesome and historic the inauguration was, sorry I replied so late. This is gonna be awesome! Let's see how the country gradually improves...
Connet
Did anyone notice that the Washington monument looks kind of like an obelisk like the ones from ancient Egypt that we learned about?
Historical Events
We now have a biracial president. The next big change in the presidency is hopefully going to be when we get a woman president.
Inauguration Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Kids' Inauguration

The day ended with a great bonus! We were able to attend the Kids' Inauguration Celebration which included stars like Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Usher, and other people I didn't know because I am officially old. The highlight was seeing the Obama girls with friends and family rock it out on stage with the Jonas Brothers. Michelle Obama spoke about the great sacrifices that military families make. The concert was dedicated to those amazing men and women fighting to protect America. She did a great job speaking. Now it is late and rest is the only thing that will prepare me for the day ahead!
What will tomorrow bring?

Today we saw the streets fill with people. The excitement about the historic nature of the Inauguration of Barack Obama as 44th President of the United States was palpable. As each hour passed it became harder to move through the city. Such joy and energy! At one point Tom Brokaw from NBC News walked right by our car window. I wondered why he was on a stroll when there was so much work to be done!
Baby Gorilla!
Venturing outside the Mall area
Starting at the Capitol!
Today was an extraordinary day. We began our day with a quick trip through Georgetown and ended up as close as we could get to all the preparations for tomorrow's big event. If you turn your head you can see that this is a photo of the three kids very close to the Capitol. By the end of the day today it was impossible to get anywhere near this area by car.Ok, here is my question.
Why did Franklin Pierce cancel the Inauguration Ball, and why wasn't it brought back for 60 years?
What's wrong with dancing? :P

Carolyn, Tommy, Margaret & Phoebe,
Hope you're having a great time! I was down on the mall today and looked for you but didn't see you this afternoon. I expected your mom to be up on stage with Obama welcoming everyone! Hope you had a chance to hear U2, Steve and Pete Seeger! Have a great weekend!

Presidential Swearing-In Ceremony
I found out what the President says at the
Swearing-In Ceremony "I do solemnly swear
that I will faithfully execute the office of President
of the United States, and will to the best of my
ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution
of the United States."

Grammy is going to the store today to buy healthy snacks for tuesday. It will take quite a while for us to get from where we are staying to the Russell Senate office building. It will be important for all of us to stay very close to each other. !!!!!!
Any suggestions for what we should plan to do on monday? I am thinking about joining Uncle Chris on his service project.
Hi!!!!!

Daniel (Inaguration.)
Here is something I found online. In JFK's inaguration, he made the famous quote "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country." (I also made it onto this site.)

Greenboro Sit-ins
The Greensboro Sit-ins
This student protest began on February 1, 1960, when four NC A&T freshmen shown in the mural photograph sat down at the downtown Woolworth lunch counter and tried to order something to eat and drink. They were told that people of their race had to stand up at another counter to eat. The young men stayed until the store closed, and students returned to sit-in the next day. This peaceful protest continued for nearly six months. Similar protests sprang up across the South. In July 1960, three local stores changed their policies to allow integrated counters that served people regardless of race or color. The successful protest did change local custom, but legal change, both locally and nationally, came with the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. The four original protesters were Ezell Blair, Jr., Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil, and David Richmond. The museum exhibit features four of the seats from the 1960 Woolworth lunch counter and a detailed time line, along with reproduction photographs and newspaper headlines.

All of the Little Rock Nine are attending the inauguration with an invitation from Barack Obama.
The University of Mississippi (the college where James Meredith went) was the site of a political debate. This time there was only secret service and not federal troops.

we are going to DC
Sunday is the day we leave to be a part of history. I hope our friends will join us on our journey
Sixth Graders at MB learn about the Inauguration!
Today in the sixth grade at Moses Brown School the students did some baisc research about what an Inauguration is all about. Some students looked up the actual word "inauguration", and some students got right to the heart of the matter: "What will be served for dinner at the parties!"
In the next week the students will be invited to join the adventure as three members of Team I head to the big event!

Send An Interview Question
Tommy, Margaret and Phoebe want to interview fellow inauguration attendees to catalog their experience. They want to ask attendees why they came to the inauguration, what they think President Obama will do for this country and other questions. Send them some questions that they can ask for you and they will try to get the answers...
